MEP visit


Matt Carthy visited the senior room today. We invited him to our room as part of the blue-star programme. We are delighted he accepted our invitation . We had Q and A sessions and then he asked us questions about the European Union and our work on the blue-star flag to date. Thanks to Matt for a very enjoyable, informative visit.

Congratulations to the 6th class who participated and completed the programme, Get up, Stand up. The programme aims to build resilience and help with their transition to secondary school.

Rugby World Cup 2019


The senior room have being learning all about the Rugby World Cup this week in school. They each received a country that is participating in the World Cup and made projects based on their country. They then presented them to their class. Everyone was so impressed with the projects.

6th class last day 


June 2019- Our current 6th class finished up today - Lisa, Cillian and Conor.  They will be greatly missed at Tibohine school. We wish them the very best of luck in their new schools.

5 star centre flag 


June 2019- We raised our "5 star centre" flag today.  A big thanks to past pupil Seanie Mc Dermott " Seanie Mac " for coming to  our school to raise our flag. Seanie and Padraic Mitchell had a match with the students after. We also held our end of year party today. Everyone had great fun.

Surprise visitor!!


June 2019- The school were delighted to receive a visit by the Nestor Cup!! Congratulations to the Roscommon football team on winning the Connacht final. Many thanks to Padraic Mitchell for bringing the cup to the school.  The kids were delighted to see it.

Group cycle 


June 2019- The Senior room enjoyed their last group cycle today with Roscommon Sports Partnership. Many thanks to Noel . They have really enjoyed the last few weeks.

SEAI workshop 


June 2019- Lisa from Green Schools did 2 energy workshops today for the whole school. She did loads of experiments and the students got to participate also.

School tour-middle room 


June 2019- The middle room enjoyed their school tour to Lough Key Forest Park. They did the Boda Borg , received a tour of Lough Key Forest Park and went to the playground also.

5 -star G.A.A. excellence flag


June 2019- We received the G.A.A. flag of excellence during the week. We are one of few schools in the county to receive one.  We love participating in G.A.A. games and activities.

June 2019-We were delighted to recieve our Blur Star Certificate and blue flag. We really enjoyed participating in this programme.

Slow Down Compaign 


May 2019- The school had their slow down day today as part of our Slow Down Campaign.  We invited the local Community Guard Martin Coyle, Green-schools education officer Lisa Mc Daniel and the traffic corps from Roscommon.  The traffic corp showed us how to use the speed gun and we checked the speeds from some of the cars passing. 2 cars were doing in excess of 90km/h. The limit is 80 km/h. Bookmark Competition 

May 2019...Congratulations to the competition winners for our bookmark competition . Each received a prize and book fair vouchers. It was very hard to pick the winners. Well done to everyone.

Book fair

The Scholastic Books book fair will take place in the school for the week starting Monday 27th May-31st May. There is an offer on -3 for the price of 2, the cheapest book free. 

Europe Day


May 2019- The school took part in the "National handshake for Europe". This symbolises the unity of the countries in the European Union.

MEP visit


April 2019 : We welcomed MEP Luke Ming Flanagan to our school as part of the blue star programme. He told us about his job and we also had the opportunity to ask him questions. We learned a lot and found it very interesting.  Many thanks to Luke for visiting.

Heritage expert


April 2019- We welcomed Chris to our school. She was talking to us about Táin Bó Cuailnge. Some of the class helped her to act out it. She was helping us to prepare for the Táin March that will take place at Rathcroghan in May.

Something fishy programme

The class enjoyed a visit from Arnold as part of the Something Fishy programme. He works with Inland Fisheries.  He gave a fantastic presentation about fish. We learned so much and loved hearing about his job.  He also brought in small animals that live in the river. We got to see the mayfly and a caddis.  We really enjoyed his visit.

Senator visit- March 2019


We welcomed Senator Maura Hopkins to our school today. We invited her to our school as part of the Blue Star Programme.  Over the past few months, we have been learning about the European Union.  She spoke about her job and also being part of the Council of Europe. We learned so much today and was great to get an insight into her job. We were delighted to welcome her to our school.

The school dressed up as the characters from their books. They also spoke about their favourite book to their class. We loved listening to the book reviews.

Retreat


The Confirmation class of Cillian, Conor and Lisa recently went on a retreat to the Fr. Peyton Centre in Attymass , with their teacher Ms. Mc Crann. They had a great day and enjoyed learning about Fr. Peyton and participating in acivities throughout the day. A big thank you to Fr. Steve and Ester for the warm welcome and a very enjoyable day.

E.U. Countries


The Senior room presented projects on the countries of the European  Union. As part of the Blue Star Programme, we are learning all about the European Union. 

Music through the ages


Simon O' Dwyer from the heritage council visited our school on Wednesday.  We learned all about music through the ages. He played various instruments for us. We really enjoyed it. 

Library Quiz


Congratulations to the Tibohine N.S. quiz team of Patrick Gaynor, Conor O' Brien, Lisa Lenahan, Cillian Harrington and Robert Perrie,  who took part in the library quiz in Ballaghaderreen library. They have qualified for the county final quiz which will be held in Roscommon library in the coming weeks. 

Science week 


Science week took place this week.  All classes took part in activities. 
We made a Newton colour wheel. We planted cress seeds to show that plants need water and light to grow.  We carried out experiments to see if stirring affected dissolving, of sugar in water,  does temperature affect dissolving of sugar in water and the solubility of sugar, baking soda and salt.  We investigated materials that rust and how long it takes them to rust. 
We mixed vinegar and baking soda to show that carbon dioxide is produced.

Maths week in the Senior room 

Maths week ran from the 15th to the 19th of October. Each class enjoyed numerous fun maths activities. Each room completed maths trails. Maths is all around us :-)

Heritage experts 

We welcomed 2 heritage experts to our school today (10th of October 2018) , Jonathon and Fionn.  We learned about mammals in Ireland and in other countries .  Both Jonathon and Fionn have travelled the world and we loved listening to their stories and learning about animals that they met on their travels. 

Musicians!

Jonathon and Fionn also played instruments for us. They played the fiddle and the guitar. They played a traditional Irish song and also one  about a Banshee.  We loved clapping along .

They played many traditional games with us.

Senior room's visit to Ballaghaderreen library. 

Ms. Mc Crann's room returned to see  story- teller and illustrator -Wayne O' Connor. We thoroughly enjoyed it again :-)

Mr. Regan's room enjoyed a trip to the local library to listen to story-teller and illustrator, Alan Nolan.

A big welcome to our new Junior Infants, the start of your Tibohine School journey!

End of Year party

We held our end of year party. Michael was the DJ and we were dancing to music all day. Attendance certificates were presented to the children in the school who missed 2 days or less during the year.  The Communion class and Confirmation class were presented with lovely cakes. We will miss 6th class and wish them the best of luck in Secondary school . We also got a piece each. We also ate pizza.  We had such a great day :-) 

Raising the Green Flag

At the end of year party, Fintan Cregg from the Roscommon football team kindly raised the Green Flag.  We told him about all our hard work we did during the year for it. He also took photographs with the Green Schools Committee and the football and basketball teams. He also had a friendly game of football with the students. 

Winners of Basketball Tournament 


Well done to our 5th & 6th class boys who won the basketball tournament in Roscommon in their category. They played 4 schools in the group stages and then proceeded to the final. It was a very tight game and they won by a point in the end. Well done :-)

Well done also to our girls basketball team and the boys 3rd & 4th class basketball teams. We enjoyed watching them play and had a great day out. 
 

Cumann na mBunscol


Well done to our boys school  football team who made it to the semi-finals of the Cuman na mBunscol.  Unfortunately it was not our day. Amazing well done to everyone for making it to the semi-final.  

School tour

The Middle Room and the Senior room both enjoyed their school tour to Shannon Rooskey Adventure Centre. They took part in many activities; kayaking, jumping off a pier,the mudslide, archery, climbing and an obstacle course. They really had a fantastic day
